Birth Home of Ban Ki-moon
The Birthplace of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Address
Haengchi Village, Sangdang 1-ri, Wonnam-myeon, Eumseong-gun
Approximately 500 years ago, this village was formed by a political faction called ‘Jangjeolgongpa’ from the Gwangju Ban Clan. It is a typical calm, peaceful rural village, surrounded by Mt. Bodeoksan just like a folding screen.
The village is home to the birthplace of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the shrine of the Haengchi families of Jangjeolgongpa from the Gwangju Ban Clan and Segyedo, a genealogical list engraved on a stone tablet. Eumseong-gun(county) has promoted the restoration and development of the birthplace of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon into a park and memorial development project.
